A South Carolina native, oboist Jamison Hillian is currently the Acting Second Oboist of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. An established chamber musician, Jamison has performed concerts for the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle, as well as the Norfolk Chamber Festival. Jamison showcases effortless phrasing, and a pristine vocal quality that he brings to the oboe in his live performances. One of his recent engagements includes a tour of China, where he performed chamber concerts with current students and alumni of the Curtis Institute of Music. He has also appeared as a guest artist with Astral Artists, as well as participated in various community engagement concerts locally and abroad. Jamison has also appeared as a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra where he performed Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante.

In addition to performing, Jamison has a strong commitment to teaching. He has taught at the Vivo Music Academy in addition to managing his own private studio, where he has mentored students around the Houston area. He calls teaching his “second passion” and has grown to love it as much as playing.

Jamison completed his undergraduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music studying with Professor Robert Woodhams. He received his Masters of Music at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music under the tutlege of Robert Atherholt. Previously playing saxophone, Jamison began his oboe studies at the age of 14 and is thankful for the guidance of his first teacher Erica Cice.
